Beyond Calories: Why Your Gut is the Center of Your Metabolism?

Hello! If you've made it this far, you probably already know that my journey began among microscopes and lab slides. As a Biomedical Scientist, I learned to see what the eyes ignore, and it was precisely this vision that led me to Nutrition and to the topic of my thesis: the Gut Microbiota.
Often, traditional nutrition focuses only on "calories in, calories out." But, through laboratory science, we understand that the process is much more complex. There is a living ecosystem inside you that decides how these calories will be utilized.

What is the Microbiota and why does it matter? Imagine an army of trillions of microorganisms working 24 hours a day. When this army is in balance, your metabolism functions, your immunity is strong, and even your mood improves. However, when dysbiosis (the imbalance of these bacteria) occurs, the body starts to show signs:

  • Bloating and gas;

  • Excessive fatigue;

  • Difficulty losing weight, even when "eating little";

  • That uncontrollable craving for sweets.

The Biomedical Perspective in Nutrition My goal here is to show you that your blood test or your metabolic history are not just numbers. They tell a story. Uniting the diagnosis from Biomedicine with the strategy from Nutrition allows me to understand, for example, how your gut health is impacting your hormones and inflammation.

Here, we won't talk about "milacles," but about evidence-based gut modulation.

And you, have you ever felt your metabolism is "stuck" or suffer from constant intestinal discomforts? Leave your comment below, let's use science to understand your body!

                                               With care and science, Vanessa 🌹
